Literacy in books and movies

Movies being made from books have become a big hit, especially among students in Elementary and High school. The Harry Potter series is a great example. This series have resulted in many students wanting to read, which is great. This has to be encouraged especially when more and more boys will read. While it is easier to get girls to read,it has always been a challenge to get boys to want to read.

The latest book series turned to movie is the Hunger Games which has been causing a stir among students. While I have not read the Hunger Game's series I have listened to what my students have had to say about the books. I will be reading both the series and watching the movie. I lift my hat off to these authors for writing with such creativity that they have been able to captivate the younger generation.

In today's world  of technology and distraction anything that gets the children away from the screen for a while is  a wonderful thing. We are losing our children. They are no longer able to think creatively. Therefore let us encourage authors who are able to think out of the box.

Literacy is power. We welcome it in any form, books or movies.

What is your opinion. I want to hear from you,parents,educators,professionals,Readers...
